Gravity: The first topic I want to unravel is gravity. We are all affected by
gravity—physically and emotionally, possibly in more ways. Our personalities
can be drawn here or drawn there based on interest; and physical matter is drawn
to the ground due to gravity under normal circumstances. There are some other
concepts of physics that are related to this topic: electricity, force, inertia
and so on. In mathematics, there is a formula to calculate issues related to
gravity in physical reality. Probability and chance are related to gravity.
A google search on “gravity” reveals Sir Issac Newton as the top hit. Lower on
the list is howstuffworks.com, which I LOVE, and it says that, “Gravity is the
force that causes two particles to pull towards each other.” I think that we
forget that gravity is a physical phenomenon caused by the magnitude of the
Earth’s physicality. This reminds me of the Ollaffur Eliason piece Robin talked
about, where there was a window in the gallery causing a shadow to move
around, and the viewers had to be reminded that “the building is moving, not the
light.”
There is a gap in this, but I do see a link between gravity and
electricity; the way that humans use light guides our attention around. I’m
guessing that simpler cultures go to sleep when it gets dark. In our culture
when the sun goes down we are still squeezing in activities, or we are watching
tv/surfing the internet. Light in screens is attractive; especially moving
light; and colored light. I think that I have maintained an ability to talk
about this subject abstractly because I have had minimal computer access for a
bit now, I avoid watching movies, and I don’t watch TV, and even with these firm
intentions, I am drawn to any illuminated screen in any room at any time.
Unfortunately human gravity towards light could be replacing our health.
Studies have been conducted over the last few years on the link between
nighttime workers and cancer rates. The studies are
showing that there is a higher rate of cancer in nighttime nurse staffs and
overnight flight staffs than in daytime staffs of the
same sort. Interesting. Crazy.
Another topic I am interested in is water. There is a connection between water and conciousness that I can talk about, but I can't explain. My interest was sparked by that What the Bleep Do We Know program. That is where I heard of this guy Masaru Emoto. This is also where I learned of David Lynch and Quantum Physics.
Water gives Earth life. We are full of water. In astrology, water signs are typically more psychic. I think that's interesting because astrology is one way of explaining why things are the way they are. It's mathematical and it's theoretical. (well, my interest in American astrology is minimal. My interst in American celebrity-ism is growing [and waning].)
Studies being done, show specimins of water reacting to words assigned to them. Masaru Emoto: He undertook extensive research of water around the planet not so much as a scientific researcher but more from the perspective of an original thinker. At length he realized that it was in the frozen crystal form that water showed us its true nature. He continues with this experimentation and has written a variety of well received books in Japanese as well as the seminal Message from water published bilingually. He claims that if human thoughts are directed at water before it is frozen, images of the resulting water crystals will be beautiful or ugly depending upon whether the thoughts were positive or negative. Emoto claims this can be achieved through prayer, music or by attaching written words to a container of water.
Water has polarity.
Water is a symbol of hope.
These are things that fascinate me about water.
